What is a Hero? The textbook definition is "one of distinguished courage or ability, admired for one's deeds and noble qualities."
The 7th Annual American Red Cross Illinois Capital Area Chapter Heroes Breakfast will be held on Friday, April 20 from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza in Springfield. All proceeds from this special event benefit American Red Cross Local Disaster Relief.

You can nominate an individual or group for the chance to be recognized in one of nine hero categories at this year's event. Nominations are due by 2/24:

Youth Writing Contest:
The Heroes Breakfast will also honor a handful of local youths for their original poetry, short stories, or essays about a personal hero. The submission chosen by a panel of community judges will win a $200 U.S. Savings Bond for education.
Submissions should be no more than 800 words, be either typed or written in blue/black ink, and be either mailed/dropped off to 1045 Outer Park Drive or emailed to wlind@il-redcross.org by February 24.
The grade-specific writing topics are:
K-5: "I know a hero"
6-8: "A hero in my family
9-12: "A hero (past or present) who inspires me"
